Symmetry
We have been learning about symmetry this month in Maths. We learned that reflective symmetry is when two sides of a shape look equal when a line is drawn down the middle of the shape to create a mirror image.
We used shapes to create mirror images either side of a line. We finished the missing half of a pattern. We used mirrors to investigate what the mirror image of a pattern we created would look like. We also incorporated it into our art and created symmetrical gingerbread men.
We learned that translational symmetry is when you slide a shape and it still looks the same.
We also learned that rotational symmetry is when you turn a shape and it looks like itself again before it completes one full turn. We tested this using our shapes and whiteboard markers to figure out which shapes had rotational symmetry.
Have a look at all of the fun activities we did to teach us about symmetry!
