Trip to Dundalk fire station
Today, we visited Dundalk Fire Station to learn about the role of a firefighter. We travelled to the fire station by bus. We were very excited to travel by bus.
Firstly, the firefighter showed us their uniforms. They even showed us their breathing apparatus. This was very interesting. One fire fighter even allowed us to press the button which released oxygen into his mask.
Then, we got to see the area where the fire fighters get ready for emergency calls. We were very surprised to learn that once the fire fighters pager buzzes, they only have 5 minutes to get to the station.
After this, the fire fighters showed us the fire trucks. We were shocked to see the amount of equipment that is stored in the fire trucks. We were very happy when we were given the opportunity to sit in the fire trucks.
Lastly, we went outside and we got to hear the sirens. They were very loud.
We had great fun on our trip and we learned lots about the role of a fire fighter.
We would like to say a huge thank you to Dundalk Fire Station for giving up their time to talk to us about their role.
